My love for cooking

If you read Blog "30" then you know that I started cooking when I was 5 years old. I had an old-school grandmother with whom I lived with until I was about 10 years old. I call her old-school because of the traditional way that she raised me and I benefited from it.
She was tough. She taught me to cook for myself, wash dishes, do the laundry (which back then was when we had to hang the clothes on a line outside with clothespins), fold clothes (in a very specific way) and iron clothes for the next day. All of this beginning at age 5 or 6 as I mentioned earlier.
I remember she put me on a chair in front of the stove and taught me how to make over easy eggs because they were my favorite.
I raise my daughters to cook early as well because I don't want them not to have the ability to cook a meal for themselves or for their husbands. I know that's peculiar that I say that, let me explain...
The way I was raised, the wife cooked the meal, plated it and then served it to their husbands. Normally when I tell people this, I get a look of shock or disgust. I've been told that it's demeaning or that women have come so far from that. But I don't feel demeaned at all.
I feel like this is a notion of my appreciation for my husband and all that he does. That's not to say that he doesn't appreciate all that I do as well but he has other ways that he expresses those actions. It can be a simple act of him washing the dishes or making me breakfast. But of course no one raises an eyebrow at that right?
My love for cooking and for food started at a very young age. Cooking tends to calm me down when I've had a stressful day at work or the kids are driving me nuts. I tend to get lost in my thoughts when I am cooking a meal and I also feel that the hard work and effort that I put into cooking my meal is rewarding to me when I am finally able to eat it.
It's also comforting to me when I serve my kids and my husband food and they show how much they appreciate it by asking for seconds or telling me how great of a meal that it actually was.
Cooking is my personal therapy, alongside shopping of course. Because what woman doesn't like shopping.
Cooking is something that I am fairly decent at and like to do but in the upcoming months I plan to take a healthier approach.
I think if there's anything that everyone can agree on, it's the love of eating. Eating is soothing, is satisfying and we sort of have to do it to stay alive :)
With that being said and in the form of an introduction, I am creating a Eating category on my blog that anyone can check out. This category will include recipes and foods we try when on the road. This category will be my little food blog. Enjoy!
