My Happy Planner - Decorating Class

Being a working wife and mother while going to school can be pretty tough. This is why I’ve always utilized a planner for school and appointments. Sometimes I color coordinate my planner and place stickers on them. I have NEVER decorated my planner.

My stepmother asked me to join her in a planner decorating class at Michael’s. Stumped, I asked what that was. She explained it to me and I was a little confused but she was really excited about it and I had nothing else to do and this would give us a chance to hang out, just the two of us. I agreed and signed up for the class.

Growing up I had a very tough life and lots of responsibility so for fun I would read, draw or listen and sing along to music. These were my outlets to get away from the hard life I was living. As I became an adult and had children of my own I found that I had less and less time for these things and eventually, I only ever found time to sing in my car alongside the radio (KLOVE station is my favorite!).

This past week was extremely tough for me in all areas in my life. Sometimes things get hard at work, but at least you have home for relaxation. Other times things get hard at home, but work is a relieving get away. When things are hard at both places, it’s difficult to handle. I picked up my book and started reading again. For inquiring minds, I am reading Sweet Valley Confidential by Francine Pascal as I have followed the series since I was in elementary.

Going to Michael’s, choosing my planner and taking the class was very overwhelming, in a fantastic way. It again reminded me of how I used to use my creativity in the dark world that I grew up in. I was so indulged in decorating that by the time I brought my head up my stepmom and I were the only ones left. There are so many cute planners to choose from along with stickers and other accessories. We met some lovely ladies who shared this common interest and exchanged information to keep in touch. They have the class every month and for the sake of a busy mother’s mind, I think we should continue to attend.

Have you ever attended any creative classes or have any interesting hobbies to share? Please, do tell!
