Baby's first food

LJ turns 4 months on August 4th which means he's getting closer to the day he'll try his first spoonful of baby food!
The suggested age range for babies to start on solid foods is 4 to 6 months. My pediatrician is all about letting the baby start having a little taste at 4 months old.
I've always heard to begin babies on vegetables before fruits so that baby doesn't reject the vegetables if given fruits first. So because this is how I was taught, I've always started with vegetables first.

As I continue to read on the subject I'm finding more and more articles and research suggesting this is just a myth; I think I agree. But I've done the same with my first 3 babies so let's just say I'm going to keep the tradition going.
My babies first foods have always been peas and squash. I think because they tend to be on the sweeter side, just as breastmilk and formula are.
Please share which foods you choose as your baby's first food. Also, which brand do you prefer? Not for any particular reason except for me just being totally nosey :-) Feel free to offer any suggestions or advice.
